an innovative camper device

Friday cravings

I have been eating alot of zuchs lately mainly because its harvest time at the stead. Gathering seeds, starting some fall plantings and enjoying the bounty (though small in qty, large in quality).

I was at a frineds yesterday and enjoyed some of her high altitude tomatoes (she lives in a 42nd floor apt with balcony overlooking Denver) Yum yum
Today I had zuchs with noodles and soup. Am taking home some leftover Pho.

back to Gardening

Its been awhile and the beds are getting overgrown with fruit and weeds. So I spent Sunday cleaning out the beds and harvesting some of the cukes and zuchs. Alot more remain. And bpy are they tasty. Had some for lunch yesterday. I also cleaned up the spinach spikes that had died back to seed and after adding some fertilizer and fish guts planted a fall sowing of spinach from the fresh seed. The joy of organic non treated seed.
I also did some research and am pulling the seed pods from the over grown hollyhocks in order to set some in a new area in the fall. I also harvested some dried pole bean pods and sunflower pods and am saving the seed for next season. Lots of work. But its a joy.
My early spring experiment in moving wild flower varieties from the natural area a few blocks away and creating a micro-community plots in my yard is working . The plants reestablished themselves quite nicely and have propagated and seeded themselves . Hopefully with some mulching and care they will will survive the winter and repopulate in the spring. We shall see.

bfast chips and salsa and coffee
lunch- tortillas and beans, chips and salsa
dinner-- Carls Jt Western Bacon burgers fries and pink lemonade

Spent the day relaxing around the stead. Picked a cuppla zuchs to use this weekend.. yumyum.. Its chili time here in Denver and the stands are getting setup to roast the chilis for winter savories. And the fruit and veggies at the stands are looking pretty good. .. I love this time of year.
Meanwhile I gotta learn how to use the new digital camera so that the pics can be brought to the site. Plus some maintenance is needed at the stead in prepping for the fall/ winter months. Its not just about food and supplies but hardware and some extra cash/ barter items around in case the SHTF.. I prefer being the miserly ant...
