Busy week slowing down
Its been real hectic this week. Between work in Babylon and on the stead. Harvesting daily and coking and cleaning the stead. Picked up some cans of organic soups and black beans this morning from someone moving out of the neighborhood.. Such waste but a good find.
It is supposed to get hot this weekend again so we shall see what the weekend holds. I am hoping to do another video but only time will tell.

While I dont plan on doing these on a daily basis as they would get boring I do intend now on doing them a cuppla times a month. I do a weekly video posting for my friends and family on FB so its as good a time as any to do some different ones for here. Hope they entertain ya a bit. And maybe even plant a seed or two in your minds and hearts. Check out this article if you need a tad more seed-planting.

Saturday morning harvest
Just after making the first video this morning I went out into the garden to do some produce shopping. While I like going to the faremers market for some citrus and corn I much prefer salad fixins from the garden.
Enjoy.. I will
1st video blog post
As have been saying for a long time Trash wanted to put some videos on the blog..Here is attempt number one. This is using a built in webcam on my Acer Aspire 531 netbook that I got for doing some consulting work. I am hoping to pick up a mobile digital camera here soon. The old VHS camera is a tad heavy to carry around and shoot portably.
We shall see.
Enjoy

SUnday Morning

Sitting on the porch this morning working and the temp was 65.. I put in some more sweet peas and a second run of lettuces for the fall harvest. The garden is in full production and its a lot of work keeping Gods little eden going. But it is worth it to us. As you can see the squash patch is going crazy. The tendrils are going all over the place and fruit is bountiful..
Heading to the Pharmers Market later on today.

SAturday morning meandering
Watched the meteor showers the other night.. So cool better than tv. Went to Babylon on Friday still in awe at the light show that God brought us. Amen.
Anyhow I been pickin the harvest and enjoying the goods that God brings to the garden. My little version of Eden in this cruel and unjust world which we live in.
Why cant more and more people realize that it is really simple to take back what is truly ours and enjoy and share its bounty?
Just a simple thought this morning. Just like the growing squash in the pic above..
Enjoy the sabbath...

5 months and counting
Today it has been 5 months since we gave up using the car and using alternative methods of transportation. ie the dumpie bike and the makeshift cargo trailer. While it has not been easy it is a blessing. To know that we dont have to perpetuate the gas and go mentality any longer.
Son and I did go up to the the farmers market yesterday by bike as usual. We got fresh peaches and cream corn, plums, and plocots (a hybrid plum/apricot). On the way back we stopped in Wallie World for a bag of frozen burgers and buns to bbq for supper. We spent the afternoon relaxing and working on some at home projects.
Mrs T and I both hate carpet. What with the kids and the animals carpet is a PITA. So I am beginning the tedious work of yanking up the carpet in the livingroom and family room in order to prep for the wood flooring we have inherited and will be layin down this fall. BUsy busy

sitting on the porch watching the grass grow
Mrs T did a wonderful post the other day on her blog about looking at the world under the shade of the squash plants..a great piece. But even working from the porch office affords me a chance to notice the wildlife that comes visiting when you provide food, shade, water etc for them. It creates a biodiverity that was present in the garden of eden. Birds come calloing to the sunflowers, rabbits to the lettuce and carrots. squirrels share our maters.. I dont mind sharing. As long as we get the majority.
Anyhow the cucumbers are fruiting nicely. I have both picklers and salad cukes growing. The maters are in full force and yes I even still have lettuce in the micro-climate of the shade. I started up some trays of greens and peas for the fall crop yesterday and today we are heading up to the pharm market to do some exploring.
Have a good Sunday

Urban foraging

While walking over to the bus stop the last cuppla mornings I have noticed plum and apple trees with fruit hangin over their owners fences on to the sidewalk.. Most of tis fruit falls free and rots. However I have taken to bringin along an extra bag or two and grabbing some samples on the way down the walk.. Its been fairly well received here in Babylon. As they know I am an urban pharmer and now an urban forager.. yumyum
Do y'all partake of urban foraging this time of year. I also have been known to hit the dumpies on occassion as well as the sale acks at the local markets.. How about y'all.
DOnt be afraid to admit it. God put the plentiful bonty out there for us all to partake of.

Pharmers Market finds
While the Mrs stayed home and did some housework I took the kids for a bike ride up to the mall and the farmers market held there every Sunday. While we got up there late I was fortunate to bring home some plums (10 pounds for $7) and 2 pounds of an apricot plumb hybrid hat was really sweet. Better than candy and popcorn.
Anyhow the kids decided that we need to back earlier in the day on Sundays to get the fresh goodies.
Came home and had nachos with beans and cheese and sour cream for dinner. And back to Babylon today..
fun fun

Fall planting
I know that we are all in the midst of the summer growing season but never to fai it is almost time to start the cool weather crops again.. Lettuces, peas, radishes chard, etc for the fall harvest.. I have been collecting lettuce seed and sweetpea seeds from the early harvest and am almost readty to start sowing again. The lettuces that spiked are now in the compost bin sans seed pods. The peas are dry and ready. Getting some greens available for the fall .. yumyum. The batteries finally died in the digital camera so will have to buy some new ones for pics this week.
Hope all are enjoying some of the fruits of their labors..I already have about 5 pounds of green beans and 20 pounds of diced squash in the deep freeze. An more coming. The cukes are finally fruiting now that the peas are out of their.. COmpetitiion must have been draining but they are fruiting in full force.Looking over the mater plants I have about 5-7 dozen maters in different stages of production. Ate some cherry ones last night with dinner salad along with some lettuce that we moved over to a shadier micro-climate and the collards and mustard that seem to thrive in heat.
